Hi I have a TX1000 that had this exact problem. Minimal use same symptoms, same complete denial from HP customer support.
Very frustrating.
I have filed a report with ripoffreport.com after finding this website.

It seems like a calculated issue addressed with a strategic corporate denial.
Many people with this problem would just buy a new laptop not knowing they may have options.

Has there been any progess with this issue?

We all need to collectively sue HP not only for the piece of shit but also for our valuable time we wasted for talking to customer care and wasyed time on net to find the fixes and running around to get repairs.

If toyota can recall the defective cars and the CEO apologises to his customers then why not HP.

Let us try to assemble all affected people in this forum and hire a lawyer who can dig out every penny out of HP who has knowingly been selling their defective product for years.

I had a dv2740 laptop and had the same issue.. after restarting it hundreds of times i got so pissed off and thought of giving a last try a weeek later before trashing it. I still got the same blank screen with all lights on. I tried ctrl+Alt+Del then I was able to see the task mgr and i clicked the button show the processes of all users(by default it was showing only system processes).. to my surprise the system came up.. this went for 6 months after which it totally went down..

I am not sure if this could help anybody but thought of sharing this..

I had the same problem but I took it completely apart and reseeded the video chip. I left it running for around 2 weeks without shutting it down and the same thing happened (blank screen). I think even replacing the mother board will be a waste of $$$ at this time.

I have an HP notebook Tx1320us. The problem I face is the same as others with similar model: wireless and screen just don't work. Technical support in Brazil confirmed this is a manufacturing deffect but refuses to give appropriate solution for it. All they suggest is to buy another equipment. warranty has expired but I think we need to pursue our consumer rights.

Hi Everyone,

I first want to say that this blog is wonderful, there is so much good information, everyone has the same frustrations with limited solutions. Here is mine (and a potential fix KIND OF)

So today while i was in class my HP TX1220us did the dreaded "black screen" which most of you are aware of...I took out the battery and tried the AC power...nothing...i took out tested the RAM...nothing..I checked the connection on the hard drive and WiFi...nothing...Here is what KIND OF worked for me right now...

After about 5 times of restarted the laptop repeatedly I finally get the boot screen...if you can get to that step you might have a change to use your laptop....Here is what I did:

I started the HP in safe-mode, and it loaded up miraculously...From there I went to the device manager (right click 'my computer' and view device manager)...Go to the section with the NVIDIA graphics card, and right click it and disable it....From there I restarted my laptop and it started up again...

I'm not claiming this is a great fix; it certainly is not. And I'm not claiming this will work for anyone else....but hey if you are hanging on to a $1300 coaster, it is worth a shot to get some use out of it, no? Please post if this works for anyone else and try to spread the word if it does work. For me, i bought this laptop used, and there is no way i'm dumping $300 into a fix, so atleast i can HOPEFULLY get some use out of this laptop....

Well I'm glad to see that I'm not crazy. Bought mine in Dec. 2007 and without a warning the exact same issue occurred. Never had a problem and actually was so happy with my laptop I told everyone to buy one. I think I will tell them the opposite (that is, no HP!). Thanks for saving me a trip to HP support here in Greece. It would have be a waste of time and money. I'd rather shove my laptop elsewhere...

Well what a coincidence! (irony) My HP dv6700 (purchased Feb 2008) which has always run hot during operation, fried its (as supplied from new) western power 250gb hard drive last September barely six months after the warranty expired. After replacing the drive with an old one from another laptop, I've had no further problems until this weekend just gone (30th Jan 2010) when it has just burnt out my AC power pack. The pack also got very hot during operation since new, but at the weekend I could distinctly smell burning plastic and shortly after that it stopped working completely, (no light on the laptop and no searing heat from the pack). How is this possible? Any feedback would be welcome.
The laptop still works fine on battery power (I can charge the battery from my old Compaq, but the AC pack for my dv6700 is completely dead. Unfortunately I also lost my spare power pack too, as I thought it must be just one of those things with the first one and decided to just switch to my spare, which went exactly the same way within twenty minutes or so of plugging in and booting up!
Has anybody come across this one before? Any suggestions about a fix? HP's helpline, "can't tell me anything about that", after putting me through to five different departments and then trying to charge me £15:99 to speak to a tech. Their authorised out of warranty repair centre will repair it, for a fixed £267 fee, (???regardless of the problem???) but would not discuss with me if there were similar issues currently on their work tables and if this was a known fault with HP products. It all smells a bit fishy to me as today after checking their website and googling for info I've come across pages and pages of similar power related problems with HP products over the last five to six years!

Is anybody pursuing this legally? If so could somebody give me some info regarding this.
Thanks
